Terra nigra
Terra nigra is the modern name for an ancient Roman art of ceramics. The special clay is burned and reduced, usually with grey to black polished surface. It is finished with a metallic sheen. In the wealth of shapes one finds blends of native Celtic and Roman elements, especially in the more widespread terra sigillata cups. The centre for production of this kind of table ware was Northern Gaul, Belgium and the Rhinelands to the middle of the 2nd century.
