Hieroglyphics ABC - Stamp Set
Write like the ancient Egyptians!
Hieroglyphs are the characters of the ancient Egyptian writing system. From about 3200 B.C. to 300 A.D., hieroglyphs were probably the most widespread and most common characters used by the Egyptians.
At times, up to 7000 different hieroglyphs were in use, making the Egyptian ABC one of the most extensive in world history.
Your hieroglyphic stamp set contains all letters from A to Z.
A significant aspect of Egyptian cultural history
The ancient Egyptians called their characters "medu netscher", which translates as "God's words". Their belief was that hieroglyphs were given to them as a gift from Thoth, the god of writing, and so it is not surprising that they served primarily as inscriptions for tomb slabs or temple walls, the most sacred places of the Egyptians.
But also the remarkably structured and progressive bureaucracy of the Egyptian advanced civilisation would have been hard to imagine without hieroglyphs, so much did they influence, for example, everyday life, trade, the military and administration.
