Abu Simbel from Egypt
The small town of Abu Simbel is known for the rock temples of the pharaoh Ramses II from the 19th dynasty, built in the 13th century BC. Abu Simbel is a town in the Egyptian part of Nubia, about 240 kilometers southwest of Aswan. The replica shows the front view of the temple with all details. The Abu Simbel is an Egyptian god temple dedicated to the gods Amun-Re, Re-Harach and Ptah. It is one of the most beautiful and ambitious buildings built by one of the greatest pharaohs in Egyptian history: Abu Simbel - the temple that was supposed to be dedicated to the gods Amun-Re, Re-Harachte and Ptah. In reality, however, it was built to glorify the glory of its builder Ramses II for centuries. This rock temple at Abu Simbel was completely driven into the rock during the time of Ramses the Great. The temple is a breathtaking building, because it measures 38 meters wide and 65 meters deep - an absolute highlight of Ramesside buildings in Nubia! According to the traditional scheme, in front of the Egyptian temple is a forecourt, as usual in Egyptian temple buildings, which visitors once entered through two pylons from north to south.
The unusual facade of the temple features four colossal statues representing the Pharaoh, seated on a throne. The statues are about 20 meters high and act as buttresses for the 31 meter high facade. They symbolize the power of Pharaoh Ramses II. The location of the temple was chosen so that when the Nile was high, the barges of the gods could dock and twice a year, on February 20 and October 20, the sun could penetrate to the farthest part of the Abu Simbel temple and fall on the altar at the feet of the three deities, Amun-Re, Harmachis and Ptah. The grandiose temple of Ramses II was saved from the floods of the Nile in May 1965 with the lifting of the first stone block from the sawn rocks that accompanied the construction of the Aswan High Dam. More than 120,000 stone blocks followed in the years that followed. At an elevated site, the gigantic project was completed in 1968.
