The history of the drinking horn
The drinking horns already in the antiquity were used as drinking cups. Originally they were made out of animal horns of bison or aurochs. The oldest archeologically proofed drinking horns are out of metal, pottery and glas coming from the Iron Age. As well in the ancient Greece drinking horns out of barrel or metal were fabricated.
The drinking customs of the vikings
For the vikings the mutual drinking was of an important and above all social function. It provided the community of the people, but as well could serve the demonstration of differences in social class and position. In the Edda in the different plots often drinking was of great importance. As well in the cultic context the mutual drinking often had a deep meaning, for example for the sacrificial feasts or funerals.
Info of use:
These drinking horns are made in small handicraft workshops. Due to the certification required by law, which is disproportionately cost-intensive, this would have an extreme effect on the sales price. Therefore, the drinking horns are only offered as a prop, which by definition is not certified for contact with Food.
