Modelling sheet dress-up doll of a medieval chatelaine

Already in the Middle Ages chatelaines were very fashion-conscious. So the daily clothes in the High Middle Ages consisted out of an Cotte, that is to consider as a simple rope to slip in. To festive occasions over the Cotte or tunic was put a Surkot, which was carried all around. That means, that the rope not only was very wide, but also fell extremely long to the floor. For change the length only with a belt was fastened and for walking gathered again. Only like that the person wearing it could manage the amount of falling fabric, which in the end as well presented the social rank.

Until more or less 1320 married women tried to cover their hair completely with a certain kind of headgear, which enclosed the face tightly. Step by step the loose or covered with a net hair got through. Partly as well it was worn plaited, too. Furthermore often a transparent veil fastened by a circlet was worn.
