A legionary camp in the Roman Empire

The Roman fort was a military camp, whose size could be quiet different. Up to 8 men lived in these small camps, which consisted only of simple barracks. On the other hand, some large camps accommodated up to 1,000 legionaries.

A smart investment that made a lot of money for the traders.

There were latrines, baths as well as horse stables and grain storages, but running water was also provided. The Roman camps were mostly established near the frontiers of the empire, in order to protect themselves against the attacks of the enemy in an emergency.
