The quill pen of ancient times
From antiquity to the Middle Ages, goose feathers served as a common and useful writing utensil. They replaced the "Calamus" reed, which was used as the main writing instrument until then. Quill pens are the precursors of dip pens, which are predominantly made of metal or precious metals. Usually the five outermost feathers of a wing were used to write and draw on parchment or papyrus. The term goose-quill or Gantenkiel is used very often as well, since mainly the feathers of domestic geese were used. The real quill pens also guarantee variety and fun during Latin and History lessons.
