(lat. atramenterium) made of red clay, glazed inside.
This is a copy of a roman ink pot. You can find inkpots like this one all over the roman empire.
The small hole at the top of the ‘atramentarium’ is used to hold the Writing feather or a writing tube, this allows the excess ink to flow back.
In Roman times ‘Atramentaria’ of this kind was found very frequently. They could be closed with a simple piece of cloth or a cork.
