Roman animal figures of this kind were mostly toys of children that also served as decoration. They are frequently found amongst women's grave goods and in children's graves.
The Roman toy horse from the end of the second, beginning of the 3rd Century AD is a ceramic cast of an original discovery of clay pottery from the southern district of Trier, Germany. The toy horse is made in patinated terracotta to match the original, which is on display in the Landesmuseum in Trier.
