The raw material for papyrus (lat. cyperus papyrus – papyrus bush) originates from a plant in North Africa, the Cyprus grass (Cyperus). Cyprus grass grows up to 4 meters tall and is cultivated in the Nile delta.
The complicated manufacturing method of papyrus paper continues to be a hands-only process as it was in the past.
Each sheet is unique because they are all individually handmade. In the Old Roman times, ancient people used either soot or iron galust to write on the papyrus.

Papyrus Info:
Today, papyrus continues to be produced in small villages around the Nile delta. A lot of families who partake in the production of papyrus conveniently live right next to the papyrus fields.
The long Cyprus grass bushes are harvested all year round and this raw material is processed with a lot of skill into papyrus paper. Each page undergoes a ten-step process which produces unique papyrus paper like no other.
The Papyrus paper production process remains the same today as it did ten thousand years ago.
