Papyrus has always been handmade and cannot be produced by machine even today. Because of this, each single papyrus page is unique! With the following pictures and descriptions we will show you how lavish the production of each papyrus page really is.

1. Papyrus plant is harvested and cut in stripes

2. The water soaked stripes are then rolled onto a flat surface

3. Papyrus stripes are placed against each other vertically and horizontally

4. The stripes should overlap

5. The wet papyrus paper is placed in between cotton cloths

6. Finally, the papyrus paper is then pressed

Done

Plinius secundus, an old roman autor wrote in “naturalis historia 13,11-13”

“The plants stalk marrow is cut into thin strips and placed in two layers on top of each other in horizontal and vertical directions to the fiber.”
